Within a color sequence,  the lowest group number is the palest color progressing darker as the shade number increases.

For the last 180 years, the family firm of Appleton Bros has been producing fine quality tapestry and crewel wool. Based until early 2013 in Chiswick, London, near the river Thames, Appletons has moved more recently to the village of Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire, near the historic market town of Thame.  Although the firm is no longer family owned, the essence of the company remains the same, with the quality of the wool and personal attention to detail being of paramount importance.

    I purchased Appletons Tapestry Wool Skein 991B. The wool is exactly what l hoped for in tone/shade for white is not a colour. Oh but the thickness is not there in the tapestry wool today. In the 1980’s when l did two tapestries and later in the early 2000’s when I finished another tapestry. The tapestry wool was thick. No pictures as l have only purchased in total now four skeins of wool.
