Aida Cross Stitch Fabric
Aida Cross Stitch Fabric is an open, even-weave fabric traditionally used for cross-stitch embroidery.
Aida is woven fabric with an evenly-spaced grid of holes that you use to make your cross stitches. Aida can also be known as Java canvas.
Aida comes in various counts, ranging from 8 to 22 squares per inch however you will mostly see 12, 14, 16 or 18 in projects. The size of the weave is measured by how many stitches can be made in one inch. This is called the fabric’s count. The higher the number, the smaller the stitches will be, because there are more stitches in each inch.
14 Count Aida is the most popular cross stitch fabric. It has 14 holes to the inch. Most cross stitch designs are stitched with stranded embroidery cotton.
The recommended Cross Stitch Needles size for 14 Count Aida is Size 24 and can be found HERE
Cross stitch is generally worked using two strands of stranded cotton when working on Aida 14-count and/or 16-count Aida. It is perfectly acceptable to mix the number of threads used within the same project.
