Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled, raster-like pattern are used to form a picture. The stitcher counts the threads on a piece of Even weave fabric (such as linen) or Aida (a fabric with more pronounced marked squares) in each direction so that the stitches are of uniform size and appearance. Cross-stitch is the oldest form of embroidery and can be found all over the world.

A little about Aida fabric…..
Aida Fabric is woven with an evenly-spaced grid of holes that you use to make your cross stitches.
Aida Cross Stitch Fabric comes in various counts, ranging from 8 to 22 squares per inch however you will mostly see 12, 14, 16 or 18 in projects. The size of the weave is measured by how many stitches can be made in one inch. This is called the fabric’s count. The higher the number, the smaller the stitches will be, because there are more stitches in each inch.
