Buckles and Bows Chart by Mary Hickmott Designs

Buckles and Bows Chart by Mary Hickmott Designs is a whimsical look at ladies shoes from the early 1800’s.

Color and pattern were popular back then together with large buckles for decoration.

Buckles and Bows Chart by Mary Hickmott Designs is an easy to read Cross Stitch Chart and with easy to follow instructions.

Design Size:

approx 15.2cm x 54.4cm (6″x 21.5″)

Buckles and Bows Chart by Mary Hickmott Designs recommends using:

  • 30cm x 74cm of  Zweigart greenish grey
  • (shade 778) 28 count Cashel
  • an extensive range of Stranded Cottons
  • in either Anchor, DMC or Maderia

Editors note: each brand is listed on the back of the chart, so you could have a good scrounge through your stash and make use of what you have!

The pattern is worked in whole cross stitch, half cross stitch and a outlined in back stitch using Stranded Cottons

Editors note: online Colors should only be used as a general guideline to allow for screen variances

Editors Note: this design is would be perfect for a clever beginner to the more advanced cross stitcher however as this is a full stitch design, consider fully graphing your fabric to make following the pattern much easier.  So what I mean by graphing your fabric is starting from the centre of the fabric, stitch a medium long running stitch over every 10 rows  horizontally and then every 10 rows vertically.  This will give you a grid pattern which will match your design Chart and make following the pattern considerably easier.

Basic Cross Stitch instructions can be found HERE.

Cross-stitch is a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in which X-shaped stitches in a tiled, raster-like pattern are used to form a picture. The stitcher counts the threads on a piece of Even weave fabric (such as linen) or Aida (a fabric with more pronounced marked squares)  in each direction so that the stitches are of uniform size and appearance.  Cross-stitch is the oldest form of embroidery and can be found all over the world.
